Honestly, I have to tell you while I got some nice shots at the San Diego Zoo, I was pretty disappointed with the size of the enclosures and limited viewing, or chances to get decent, unobstructed photos overall.  The San Diego Wild Animal Park (which started as a very open, overflow area for animals not on display) was much more photo friendly, and had the rarer species to view and photograph as well.

These shots of the Damara Zebra species.  You can tell a Damara from other zebra species easiest by the "shadow" stripes you can best see on the bottom left photo above.  The brown stripes in between the sharp black and white stripes are the "shadow" stripes.

You can also see here that Damara have little or no striping on their legs and their striping ending just before their belly with a long black belly stripe down the center as this fellow rolled over to show you!
